Thanks, I need a little bit more. I'm wondering if I am missing a piece or are there adjustments necessary to the shift rod that goes to the transmission?

Not sure, what kind of shifter?  Same principals from the video should be applied.

Great video Chris. This is probably a sac-religious question to a classic restorer but hopefully you can help. I am trying to replace my original shifter with an after market button type shifter. I only get third, fourth and reverse. I can not get it into first or second. I could before but it was loose and sloppy. Any suggestions? 1979 bug convertible.
