Chris,

I apologize.  I confused this video with the September 15, 2012 video.  In that video, it was mentioned that you were installing the Wolfsburg West Okrasa modification for the first time and that, further, you heard reports that the engine was producing over 50 horsepower.   This agrees with the April, 1957 edition of Hot Rod magazine  where the graph shows that the engine made about 48-49 horsepower without the Abarth exhaust.

I was just curious about the driving experience, whether it was very effective or mild so.  The Hot Rod magazine article says that the bug's passing ability was greatly improved.

My engine is at Jansen Enterprises here in California and I'm having him install the Wolfsburg West induction system, a stroked crank, and Abarth exhaust.   I'm pretty certain these changes will add much power without, hopefully, wrecking it's classic look.

Chris,

You never mentioned how the Okrasa modification turned out.  Can you tell us how the acceleration changed?  Did it give a good kick in the pants?   I'm wondering if this modification is worth it.

I'd love to boost my 36 horse engine and keep it looking stock (i.e., single carb) but I'm not finding a solution outside of the period-correct Okrasa kit made by Wolfsburg West and a Judson supercharger which seems to be a good way to overheat the engine.

@Goluscombe I mention in the video I always use this combo because of the better kick.  I would not make a video based on theory.

G'day Chris.

Would these two improvements work a 1192cc Australian built 1965 standard model Beetle?

I have just taken ownership of a complete stock/original 6volt beetle, built and manufactured in Australia and I am going to keep it stock, but I like the idea of a little more HP without compromising the originality.

Cheers

Clem

@Aussie65vw Depends which motor you have, 36hp or 40hp?  Is the genny stand fused to the block?  If you have the later 40hp, go with a 019 Distributor, and you will have to hunt down an abarth for the 40hp.  I think they do sell it though through karmann konnection

Great tips, Chris. Question: any recommendations for 40hp engines?
